Overhead console?
Is the display supposed to blink when the headlights are on? The temperature and direction leds blink whenever the lights are on otherwise they're steady. '99 Eddie Bauer.

What do you mean by "blink." Is it a single flash when the lights are initially turned on, or do they blink at some rate the entire time the headlights are on? If constant blink, approximately what is the rate, and does the rate change with engine speed? Have you tried adjusting the interior illumination dimmer to see if that has an impact?

Correct, it shouldn't do that. The dimmer is a pulse-width modulated dimmer so I was expect to hear that had an effect on the flash rate, thus pointing to an issue with the dimmer. Since that's not the case, I'm not sure what to suggest. Maybe if you have access to an oscilloscope you could scope the power input and the dimmer input to make sure the flash isn't present on those signals.

I was thinking about putting a velcro fastened cover on it when the lights are on. The dimmer is loose from it's mounting and I need to correct that. I tried yesterday but didn't have the right tool to get the lower dash cover off. I think it's a 7mm socket.
