has any one here used one? was it worth? what did you actualy get from it? would you recomend it to a friend? any input would be great.. thanks for your help..
Excellent product and mod. I'd highly recommend it as the most bang for the buck. I installed the "preset" code, but one day I might get creative. I've also scanned my PCM for codes, but haven't had any.
Of course any gains are "seat of the pants" gains without the benefit of an engine dyno, but I've noticed my Expy is much more responsive down low. Mileage increased by 1/2 to 1 mpg too. No problems.
Does the superchips tuner allow you to make adjustments to just the transmission? I don't want to run premium gas.
XXL
....honestly don't know if you can or can't. I read through my operator's manual and from what I saw, it doesn't say. I think 99.9999% of people who purchse a superchip buy it for the the engine performance enhancements not the auxiliary or tertiary functions. One does have the option to install the standard preprogrammed superchip tune or to customize through a long series of Q&A's. I opted for the standard program. Maybe one day I'll do some experimenting with shift pressures, shift points, gearing, tire size, etc.
You might want to pose the question to superchips directly. I emailed them with questions when the 1715 first came out and they got back with me a day or two later.
Originally posted by webmaster No, you cannot make just transmission adjustments. It requires the premium fuel program to be installed if you want to make tranny adjustments.
I just spoke with a SuperChip distributor and was told that the "New&Improved" MicroMax Tuner allows you to select from Four (4) separate states of 'Tune'
I was also told that you can select to 'firm-up' the transmission, recalibrate your speedometer and shift points to compensate for oversize tires / gear changes, adjust the speed limiter, etc.
1. oem ----- Everybody has this option whether they have a chip or not.
2. Reg Unl performance ----- Why bother unless you can't get Super Unleaded gasoline? Performance gains would be very minimal.
3. Super Unl performance ----- Already standard with chip or tuner
4. Towing ----- Have no idea on this one, but how much different can it really be?

YES BUT, It is much easier to simply hook up and download the oem program (with no trace of PCM access) then it is to dig around in the passanger foot well to pull a chip out before taking you truck in for warrenty service!

TRUE BUT, while hp & torque gains would be minimal at best, you STILL get the improvements in transmission shift qaulity/speed, speedometer/axle ratio calibration, all nice features that can be enjoyed while you 'burn-off' a tank or two of cheaper reg unl gasoline. Perhaps when traveling and outright performance isn't needed or good quality premium unl is not available!
3. Super Unl performance ----- Already standard with chip or tuner
YES BUT, the standard tuner isn't as feature packed as the new one . . . a chip suffers somewhat from lack of 'quick change' flexiblity (on a mildly moded engine)
4. Towing ----- Have no idea on this one, but how much different can it really be?
WELL, from what I am told they (SuperChips) really tweeked the 'performance' setting to the max . . . the 'towing' setting is roughly the same as the 'old' chip/tuner performance settings

Hey Petrol, I'm not debating you, but I just don't see TOO much added benefit in the new tuner compared to the existing 1715 tuner that I have. I'd bet that one couldn't tell the difference between the three performance choices in the new tuner compared to the existing superchip performance program in a "blind taste test."
