Vibration above 75 mph

2008 that we picked up used. Never thought to test drive it above 75 before we bought it unfortunately. Rides smooth at lower speeds.

Has 20" wheels with new tires. Rotating and balancing doesn't help. Changed out front and rear shocks (struts). No help. On advice from someone I shouldn't have listened to, changed out upper and lower control arms, end links, etc. No change but steering is tighter now since a few of the parts were actually worn.

No clunking or slop in the drive either upon acceleration or deceleration. It just shakes the steering wheel and you can feel the almost like driving on a rumble strip when you hit a certain speed. Slow down and things are back to normal.

Saw an old thread about road force balancing. Does that really work? Thinking of swapping out wheels and tires with the brother in law for a test drive (he's got an F150 with 18" wheels and new tires), but at this point I really don't think it's wheels or tires.

Where to look now?

Have the wheel bearings been checked? I would go forward with the wheel/tire swap test drive as well. At least that way you can rule them in/out for certain.

I have not checked the wheel bearings. It shows no other signs or sounds that would indicate it's a wheel bearing issue. Have you seen this type of issue from a bad wheel bearing before? I haven't.

A bad wheel bearing will certainly cause vibration, but you would be able to hear it as well (I wasn't clear on whether you had any noise present.). Ball joints are worth a look if you haven't already also. Since you've already had the wheels balanced, I would skip the Road Force balance. Road Force is better than traditional balancing imho, but it's not going to correct a problem like this that can't be corrected with traditional balancing.

Out of curiosity, what tires are on it and have you checked the insides of the wheels for any damage?

Ball joints were new with the control arms.

Oddly enough, road force balancing actually seems to have fixed the problem. About 70 miles on it so far and not a shimy or shake to be felt.
