took apart a 5R44E, had melted reverse sprag, couple of leaking solenoids, some stuck valves, put new/good parts back in, new seals & gaskets. Now there is no reverse. 2 seems normal, 1 seems like it is in 2 gears at once; at idle the tires are stopped, but if I give it some gas, it will spin the tires but is really loading the engine to do so (it is still up on jack stands). Shifting into D from N will cause the tires to spin, but with no power, yet if I shift into D from 2, it seems normal. Any transmission gurus that can figure out what these symptoms point to?
truck is a 2003 ranger 4 cyl that was parked for about 2 years.
Check the EPC solenoid, make sure its in its bracket correctly and that the bracket is not broken, also make sure the end plug for the 2-3 shift valve is correctly installed, if it's in too far it can cause the shift valve to block the oil to the low band and you will have no reverse.
ok, the plug was in too far, I had to take the valve body off to correct that, so hopefully that should take care of reverse. While I have the valve body off, is there anything else I should look at regarding the other symptoms?

I would just make sure the gaskets are not covering any holes and all the check ***** and "L" retainers are in the correct location and obviously no stuck or sticky valves.
You could air check the drums and servos with some compressed air to make sure things are solid.
So my 5r44e feels like it goes into gear i push the gas and it starts to move then it is like it goes into neutral and just revs this is a 4x4. What would cause this? it is like that in every gear i removed and rebuilt the valve body did not replace the solenoids but the gasket was blown out by reverse and another location i did replace the gaskets and they were not blocking any passageways the fluid did need to be changed and had a slight burnt smell but there were no particulates that could be seen in the oil.
