I started to disassemble the distributor for my 226 six and a small L shaped insulator fell out in pieces. I'm fairly sure it goes under the primary lead and is part #12234 in the illustration below. Does anyone know of a vendor that sells this item?
Or run the wire from the points all the way to the coil thru that hole, and goober the hole with RTV. Just be sure to leave enough slack wire in the distributor.
Thanks for the responses. I guess I'll have to try and make something myself. I think the hard part will be making it out of something that allows me to make the small "L" bend but won't break off after bouncing around a while.
A thin piece of rubber or plastic works fine. I found something in my garage stash and cut it to size and it's been working for over a year or so.
Gasket material like mentioned. Anything to insulate that can take the heat it is exposed to. Gotta get creative on some of this old stuff we cant find parts for.
I had the same problem on my 226 distributor. I also made one from plastic found in the shop. Maybe it's time to replace it with the original part! Thanks Numberdummy!
Thanks, Bill. Don't know why I didn't think of Green Sales Co. myself. I've gotten other parts like this from them before. They were very helpful and didn't mind handling a small order.
