Hey all,
Could someone shed some light on this choke plate.
Please see attached image.
1966 w/352, stock.
This plate is always open. Wether the truck is running or not.
I have slowly working out all the bugs with this recent truck.
Noticed this plate not doing anything.
Is it supposed to be attached to the choke somehow?
There should be a linkage connecting it to the electric choke. I can't tell with your finger in the way. If your choke is operating and adjusted properly, it should be closed when cold and open when warmed up.
Whether it's electric or hot air, could be a broken coil inside the choke.
Side question: what carb is that and what's that barb on the top? Looks like a vacuum port or something. Shouldn't that be capped off if it's not being used?
Barb on top is a bowl vent. If this is a CA truck it could be part of emission system or the carb is a later model and not OE to the 66 truck. Is there a tag still attached to one of the cover screws? Like in front of the barb I see the word Motorcraft, clean the tag and post the #s.
The 1.08 is the venturi size, and that's a little small for your 352. I think stock was 1.14, and you could probably go bigger. I have an Autolite 2100 with 1.08 venturis on my 240. So... swap it for the right carb and you can take care of your choke problem while you're at it
I know there are some obvious differences but it looks a lot like this motorcraft 2150 from a Jeep. Other 2150's look different from this. I wonder if a 2150 rebuild kit will work to fix it up. Check the choke pulloff diaphragm and other moving parts that are not included in a standard kit too:
