I have an 4180 holley carb on a 460 eng, w/elect / hot air choke.
here's my problem.
When I first try to start the truck it will start for a couple of seconds then stall. I would then have someone crank it over while I hold the choke plate closed slightly, to keep it running until it's warmed up. then it will stay running.
I noticed that the choke plate seems to open to fast.
do I need to make an adjustment to the fast Idle cam?? cause I'm not sure if it is sitting in the right position??
I tried to adjust the choke thermostat as far lining up the marks, but the choke plate stayed open so I turned it counter clockwise until the plate closed w/some tention on it. That did'nt do it: it still opens to fast.
Vacuum choke pulloff cracks open the choke when the engine starts. Sounds like yours may be opening too much. May have worked fine until the weather got cold and now it doesn't have enough choke to run. The best way to set it is with a Mityvac type vacuum pump and a drill bit to measure the gap.
