I just ordered some speakers from crutchfield today and I was talking to them about how one of my speakers goes out and when I turn it up it comes back. Earlier this week I bought an alpine and had it installed and the guy said I had a stock amplifier somewhere in my car that could be causing some problems, but today crutchfield said I didn't does anyone know if it does or does'nt and if it does and my amp is going out where it is and how do I bypass it?
It's hard to tell from the radios end if your van has an amp or not so your installer might of took a guess. Is it always just one speaker? When it comes back on how does it sound at a high volume? Is it still doing it even with the new radio?
Yea, its only on the front passenger seat side all the others sound great. When my son turns up his rap loud the speaker sounds great it sounds just like all the other ones and it seems like we have to warm it up because then we can turn it down and it'll still work but when I turn or slow down it cuts off. When we got the new radio, it made the speaker always work it just doesn't make much noise even when we turn it up it just makes a little bit of noise. I've tried fading it and everything and it sounds awful. But I just ordered to speakers so we're going to try to bypass the amp with that which isn't hard but if there is an amp we need to get it out before it goes bad for the other 5 speakers.
A bad ch on an amp doesn't mean its going to continue to damage the other ch's. Running wires from the radio to the speakers is my favorite. I hate stock wiring!!!!!! If something goes wrong with the stock wires it's a pain in the rear to trace.
I wish I knew more about how to do this crap. The installer was talking about how it would cost $50 for him to find and rewire all the speakers in the amp or to bypass them so the other speakers don't go out so I just went by what he was saying.
For $50 is he wires all speakers to the radio and includes the wire go for it! It can take a few hours to do because you have to remove panels and stuff. Speaker wire from walmart should be under $20 for all.
Do you have the factory radio still? Do th eplugs on the back look like they fit these:
Those are the plugs that go in the dash to the radio. If they look like these, then you do not have a factory amp. If one does look like that, and the other is a square smaller plug, then you do have an amp...
Thanks Cobra
I have one big one and one smaller one so I must have an amp
DO you know where they put it in an E 150 Van it's a conversion van so I could be looking for days.
Or who can I talk too about locating it,
I have no idea where they stashed it in the vans. You might stop by a Ford dealership and go to the service dept and sask one of the techs. Something simple like that, they usually don't mind answering...
