So tonight I was out working on the truck getting it cleaned up as I am hoping to find a new home for her. Saturday I am going to put on new front brakes and rotors to fix the death shake, but I noticed that the right front tire is wearing the inside out. I also have a shake above 55 MPH that will not go away so I am sure they are related. My tire pressures were 65 PSI all the way around. the left front tire looks great!
So I thought that perhaps the hubs was stuck on that side. I checked and it is not. So any ideas?
Is the truck was toed in or out, I would expect the left side tire to be wearing the same way.
Have you checked your wheel bearing on that side? Raise that corner and grab the tire at 12 and 6. If you can wiggle the wheel and tire, you probably need a new wheel bearing. If that is the problem, you have to replace the entire assembly, which makes it more expensive, but the benefit is that it is only 4 bolts (after you get the brake caliper off and pull the sensors plugs).
rotate your tires and watch the wear on that corner, and whichever corner you swap that tire to.
If the uneven wear happens again on that corner, you know it's not the tire.
If the wear continues to be uneven on that tire in it's new location, it's the tire.
good luck.
