I bought a '78 HP44 of a guy for $50, shafts and knuckles included. However, the radius arms were not available. I've got a few questions that I need answered. I've tried seraching message boards and the web for information, but to no avail...
First question is whether or not I can use any of the early HP44 radius arms? I've found two donors at the local P&P but they are both from earlier years.
If I can use these arms, does anyone know where I can buy the front end c-bracket for them? The people who pulled the axles didn't leave the front brackets, just the arms.
If I can't use the arms, is there anyone that sells the OEM style arms? Also is there anyone that sells individual pieces for the arms instead of the whole are or the arm with a lift kit? I know Rubicon Express and other companies have their own versions of the radius arms, but I don't want to spend 400 bucks or more.
I only know of one difference between newer arms and older arms. There may be others.
Starting in 78' the two bolts for the lower spring cups were spaced a little further apart. You can make the newer cups work on older arms and vice versa by ovaling out the holes a little bit.
I was just informed of a place on the POR board called tom's bronco parts. Thye have a schematic of the radius arm. They also sell some of the parts individually except the part I need. The part I need is the other portion that the radius arm bolts to, it's located at the bottom left corner of the schematic just left of the c-bushing.
I'm calling them tomorrow to see if they can sell the part seperate of the whole arm.
For what vehicle is this? That part is called a radius arm cap. There are two types available; the model shown in the picture and a model that allows for a dual shock setup on stock Ford vehicles. Make sure that the radius arm and cap have matching numbers (that they came from the same side of the same vehicle - these peices were matched for each vehicle). Other caps can be substituted, however, it is not recommended.
Check the local junk yards or check out the little bronco websites for wristed arms or other replacements.

Y'all be aware that these are NOT Ford basic part numbers.
They have nothing to do with Ford...at all!
As original, there is no Ford part number for the piece you are asking about, as was not available separately.
It was only furnished with the radius arm (actual Ford basic part number 3A360).
This is the case whether dual shocks are present, or not.
===========================================
The radius arms are the SAME left and right with dual shocks.
2) D8TZ3A360A .. Right & Left Radius Arm / Use with Dual Shocks / Obsolete
Fits: 1978/79 F150 4WD & Bronco.
----------------------------------
If dual shocks are not present, the radius arms are not the same left & right.
D8TZ3A360A .. Left Side Radius Arm / Use without Dual Shocks / Obsolete
D8TZ3A360B .. Right Side Radius Arm / Use without Dual Shocks / Obsolete
Fits: 1978/79 F150 4WD & Bronco.
========================= Note: The radius arm bushings used on 1978/79 F150 4WD's & Bronco's are for these models only.
They are not the same as any other year, series or model. All four (right/left // front/rear) are the same.
Numberdummy, I am wanting to add dual shocks to my 1979 f150 4x4. So according to your information the radius arms are differnt right and left because my truck was notequipped with dual shocks originally. I pulled a set of towers right D8TA-18035 AC RH and left D8TA-18A009 AB LH From a 1978 F150 with dual shocks. Then I pulles the radius arem caps from a 1979 Bronco, the truck radius arm caps were missing. These bronco radius arm caps have the holes/bracket for the lower shock mount for shock in front of the coil spring. I have been told to make sure they match what does this mean? How do I ensure they match? Why do thye need to match? Or should I make sure the right cap stay on the right and the left stays on the left even if the radius arms are different?
NumberDummy, So I should grab the left radius arm from the bronco I grabbed the arm caps from and switch my right radius arm with the left radius arm so they are they same? Then I have the match I need, correct?
Do the radius caps have three holes drilled in the top area. Two are for a small
bracket and two bolts, this bracket creates one side of the bottom shock mount. do they fit 1979 F150 and bronco ? Price ?

Reason: spelling
two holes. i am judging by the experience i had, these are for a single shock set up compared to the dual set-up i have. thus the reasoning i could not use them.

What I typed above is not my info...it's Ford's...as it came directly from the 1973/79: Passenger Car & Light Truck Parts Catalogs.
Bronco parts are listed in the passengercar parts catalogs 1966 thru 1979.
NumberDummy: Bill I know you are giving info from the
Ford books, which is probally the way I should go. Am I correct then to get two left radius arms with caps that create the bottom shock bracket? Better yet get the radius arms from the bronco I got the caps from. What would you do ? Thanks.
