Hi, I am new to the ford FE family and am looking for a good online article for building my 390. I am blind and don't have access to the print articles
in the car mags. My 390 is a 1968 block 352 A 48, C7AE-B rods, 20 (or is it a2 followed by the letter O) crank and 410 pistons. will this setup work for
a HiPo engine?
Wow Thats cool your blind and building a FE.Now thats what I call serious dedication! Well to better understand what you would want from a 390,What kind of vehichle is it going in?What kind of horsepower do you want to get out of it?Give us an idea of what you want.
Now if chevy guys showed this dedication we would be in trouble i think
This motor is going in a 76 f150 street truck that will do weekend dragracing. The plan is to do a very fast low-riding truck. I am going to put a late model bed, shaker hood (to be replaced with roots blower in the future) and fat tires all around. Oh yeah, a Detroit locker is going in the rear end.

Hey Randy,
Not to focus too much on your condition, but that really is awesome that you are building an engine. Having said that, you have come to a great place to get info. I am also new into tha FE family, and I am trying to get more power out of my 390. I have found tons of info. here. There is a forum in this section, but you have to check forums from the last 30 days. The sender is smokey6309028 and the name is- need more power from my 390!!. Dinosaurfan talks about a 390 that the guys at HRM built that was pushing some massive HP and torque. Dinosaurfan is a good guy to talk to. He knows a lot about building FE engines. I'm sure you'll find a lot of information here from a lot of really smart guys. Like I said I am new to FE's myself, so I don't know as much as others but I'll in any way that I can. Good luck and have fun.

How much are you looking at spending? you are going to run a automatic trans? Do you mind a little stall converter? I would get a custom cam ground like the lunati 30507 but change the center line to 112-114 degrees due to the supercharger you plan on later. The dual patern helps the exhaust side, witch is always a plus on a supercharger. This cam likes a bit of converter stall, about 2000 stall speed.I would prolly pick edelbrock performer RPM intake,750-780 holley vac carb.If you plan on supercharging later try and keep it to 8.0-8.5 compression ratio. Also supercharging at that point would be 950-1150 cfm carb.If going that route just plain stock heads will do fine. The supercharger makes up for less than perfect heads,by blowing in the air/fuel in and out.But doo inverst in large tube high quality headers and exhaust.Look at it this way if you plan on making 500-600 HP with the supercharger the exhaust sytem should work with that amount.Hope that helps
