Silver paint for '80s Ford Grilles
On my '88 F150, the plated metal on the inside of the grille (don't know what type of metal it was, maybe aluminum?) was rubbing off, so I decided to find a spray paint that would match it. I found Rustoleum Painter's Touch Metalic Aluminum, but was dissapointed that the cap didn't match the grille; it seemed too dark. After the plating had been wetsanded smooth and the chrome edges masked off, I gave it a coat of that paint. The cap lied, it was a PERFECT match for the grille!
I still need to give it a second coat tonight, and a couple Satin clear coats in the next few days, but if everything works out, I recommend using this for anyone with a factory silver Ford grille that needs a repaint.
Whe it's all done, I'll post pictures on my truck's restoration thread!
