I have a 1998 4.0 ranger with almost 250,000. It was my daily driver until I had my son and I needed something a little bigger so i got a 2000 f350 7.3L about 2 1/2 years ago. In that time the ranger has pretty much sat. After much research on the forums I decided to tackle my CEL lean codes and replaced my upper and lower intake gaskets, cleaned everything pretty well including the injectors and got it all back together. I wanted to drain the fuel tank and add some fresh fuel to the system so i disconnected the fuel filter, pulled the fuel pump relay and used a jumper wire to power the fuel pump. Nothing happened. I put the relay back in and tried turning the key and nothing happened. I checked the fuel pump cutout switch under passenger dash and it seemed fine. So I'm looking at the fuel pump being shot. I am thinking about pulling the bed to access the fuel tank as opposed to dropping the tank. Ideally I can just replace the pump itself but do you guys think I should replace the whole assembly? Are there other things that are problematic in that assembly that would make it a better choice to replace the whole thing? Do you think the fuel pump is the culprit? The future of the truck is uncertain and it could easily end up at the scrap yard so I would hate to sink too much money into it but part of me wants to have it running and see if the intake work that I did actually worked and is leak free. Thanks for any help.
Todays fuels will destroy these pumps if left to set very long. Had a B2300 that set for over a year and its pump was eat up. Including the fuel level sender.
