I'm having my 6.0 bulletproofed right now. I'm wondering about experiences and opinions with adding a bypass oil filtration system like the Amsoil system. It will run about $400 and I wouldn't be using it to extend drain intervals, just keep the oil cleaner thinking it would extend the life of my injectors? Is it worth it?
As you know the purpose of the bypass is to clean the particulates out that the stock one can't in an attempt to keep the oil clean to extend service. What the filter can't do is stop the break down of the oil. Now since you already said you would not be doing it for extended services, than what gain do you think it has? I say none. The stock filter is sufficient.
So if it was me, no I would not get the bypass kit.
^^^^^^^^ This -- I don't consider a bypass oil filter a "bullet proof" component on a 6.0. Change your oil at 5K intervals and use synthetic or a blend. Save your money for those oil changes...
I put one on my truck, when I had the egr and oil cooler replaced the tech that did it said the inside of the engine was very clean not all gooped up. I also run a coolant filter and that also helps. I run standard change intervals and replace the amsoil filter ever other time. Oil when I check it is also clean, not as clean as with a cng engine, but not as dirty like a standard diesel either. If you have the chance do it, it wont hurt and may just help more than you think. Look around and you might find the kit a lot cheaper. Or become an amsoil seller and get a bigger discount, you dont need to sell anything to be a dealer so you can supposedly buy the oil etc at a cheaper price if so inclined. I run rotella t6 in mine.

When my truck was bulletproofed, I had every option installed - cold weather, by pass. But, it was being used as a heavy duty rig in a harsh climate - oil fields in North Dakota. My mistake was that our shop mechanic did the install. He's a great diesel mechanic - mainly heavy equipment and routine maintenance on the company trucks. And, some mistakes were made (which may or may not be contributing to my current problems) and I'm going through and basically reinstalling the entire system now. Sorry, long answer/suggestion - do it if the installation is being done by a BPD trained mechanic. What's an extra $500 when you're already in around $2000? Ha.
