Any advantage to the by-pass oil filter systems?

I wanted to know if there is any real advantage to adding a
by-pass filter to the 6.0L
Here is the one from BPD
Bypass Oil Filter Assembly, Ford 6.0L Diesel
Amsoil and Sinister Diesel have one too. It is very $$ snd I don't know if
the need is justified or not.

Anyone got thoughts on this ?

Thanks
Sean

a by pass filter just takes a small percentage of oil in the loop and filters it to a finer degree taking out the bigger particulates the regular type filter misses. It is said you can go longer in between oil changes since the oil stays cleaner longer. I have read that bypass does nothing from the shearing of the hpop. I also am looking at the same one from bpd. I am not convinced i can take the oil change interval up to 10-15k so i will continue to change it at a minimum 5k and max 7500k.

I was going to stick with the 5K oil changes. But would it cut down
on the ware and tare of other parts enough to justify the cost?
Having cleaner oil would be nice but will it make a difference.

I know that clean oil is important, but some people in the early days did UOA analyses before and after the installation of a bypass filter and saw no difference in the results.

i'd say... no.

clean oil shears the same as dirty oil.

let's say you double your oil change interval. not suggesting it,
let's just say....

an oil change is say... $80 for spiffy oil. 4 gallons of rotella synthetic.
so, you save $40 every 5,000 miles.

you get to change two filters every time, instead of one, so the
filter cost is about the same.

so, let's say the kit is $400.. so you break even in 50,000 miles.
cheap oil, it takes longer to pay for itself... say 75,000 miles

but running broken down oil has taken out the HPOP.....

no matter what it costs, oil is cheaper than steel.

i flip open the fumoto, unscrew that enormous filter BPD
puts on their oil cooler, spin a new $12 filter on, pour in
four gallons of rotella, and drive another 5k miles.

10 minutes, $100. the cost of doing business.

let's say you test the oil at blackstone, and know it's good...
so, you test it every 2500 miles to be safe......

at $30 a test, that is $60 every 5,000 miles to use fugly old
oil.

i don't see the bypass filter as being a worthwhile solution for
this engine group. the OTR guys in 18 wheelers, yes. the
big stationary diesels, absolutely. heavy eartthmoving equip.
absolutely.

but not here, given the problems the oil endures in this engine.

bismic & Fulthrotl,

Thanks you for that info. You both made it easy
to make up my mind on this. I am going to keep
my money for some thing will show more results.
