Tuning - Mini Maxx

The 2006 I bought had a Mini Maxx tuner on it when I bought it. Truck is in getting bulletproofed right now but the more I read about the H&S products the more I'm scared of it. Since they are out of business due to the EPA, finding information and options is pretty slim. Does anybody know if I can have custom tunes loaded on it that would be more longevity and mileage friendly vs racing tunes that H&S is known for? One shop offered to buy it and install another tuner but it's the shop I don't trust and the one that told me I had blown head gaskets when it was just an oil cooler. I don't get how they could do anything with it since they are supposedly locked to the VIN of one vehicle? Is there somebody out there writing tunes for these things that can "unlock" them or something?

Keep the H&S tuner. They are VERY expensive and if you do sell it, you should be able to get 1k NO problem. Around there anyways. Several people can make custom tunes for that tuner. I ran it exclusively on my 6.7 Powerstroke and never had any issues. DO NOT JUST TRADE IT OUT, you will be losing money.

As far as I know if you use the tuner to return the truck to "stock" tune then it is no longer VIN locked. If they are willing to give you something like an SCT X4 plus Innovative Diesel tunes it may be worthwhile...but maybe they can just use the H&S to program it?

Yes let me look through my notes and I will just shoot you a PM. Also if you haven't already, make sure the power level on that tuner is stock. H&S weren't known that great for making great tunes for the 6.0, but that tuner is GREAT for looking at codes, reading different temps, levels etc. Also, if you want something different just take the tuner completely off and sell it. They can be used for other trucks and they can be modified to fit newer trucks etc.
