A friend of mine gave me his SCT X3 with custom tunes. It had been installed on his 2006 F250 6.0L that was stolen. I have to send the unit back to SCT to have it unlocked for $150, but not knowing what strategy I have on my truck, and what strategy the tuner is set up for, would I be wasting my money? Is there a way to get this tuner to work on my truck? I would appreciate any help. Thank you.
Hook the tuner to your truck and it will tell you your strategy but I do not believe it will tell you what strategy his tunes are for it will also tell you how many locks/unlocks are left basically you can move the tuner to 5 different strategies before you have to send it off.He should know his stolens trucks strategy but if he doesn't then you will need new tunes for your trucks strategy. Unless he has already used all 5 locks and unlocks you probally will not have to spend the $150 unlock fee. I am not as knowledgable about who to use for tunes as the used tuner I bought was the same strategy as mine so just used the old tunes. Do some research here and I'm sure someone else will have something to add..Good Luck!
Custom tunes wont work if they are vin locked, but after unlocking the SCT (which they might be able to do remotely) it will work fine. I will take it for $75.00
Yes, the tuner is VIN locked to the truck that was stolen, so I have to send it back to SCT to have it unlocked.....I verified with SCT that it has to go back to them, I wish they could do it remotely.
So if I understand you, because they are custom tunes, it does not matter what strategy I have and this tuner will work on my truck?
agree, the tuner can be refreshed and you can buy some tunes for your truck and you got a deal !
DO read the strategy on your truck before sending it back....
does he recall what strategy his truck was ?
he should know since he had to know to get HIS tunes...
or his tuner would most certainly know....
(if it's not stolen )
then u can order your tunes and set up your pc for downloading them
and get impatient while waiting on your new toy
