For the last 6 or 7 mos. my 08 F-350 has been slow to shift into 1st when shifting from park or reverse, whether it is a cold start or warmed up by driving. Trans shop says go ahead and rebuild it to the tune of 3-4k.
Might as well, gotta' be in there anyway, right?
All the other shifts are normal. That 5-8 second delay is getting bothersome.
Any suggestions?
It's probably a sticky solenoid. A rebuild will fix that, but there are less expensive ways. You could just replace SSA. Or you could change the fluid, sometimes new fluid will unstick a solenoid.
It is also possible that you have a bad seal in the forward clutch. A pressure gauge in the test port should show low pressure during the delayed engagement if this is the problem. If it is the problem, a rebuild is in order.
Mark,
Thanks for the reply, I'm praying for a solenoid and not a re-build. That being said l'll go ahead and change the fluid, cheapest fix first, right?
Should a re-build run in the 3-4k range?
Not a custom tune. Gearbox Z DPF-R only. Is it possible that a "re-install" of this programmer would help? I've not heard of this being a fix...just curious if anyone else has experienced the same thing.
Thanks for all of your comments.
