The previous owner of my 2WD "85 150 said the original owner had "helper springs" installed. I plan to lower the truck, and these need to be taken out first for now! Looking at the pic can anyone tell me what spring parts need to be taken out? I'm thinking the top most spring and block were all that was added, but want to be sure.
I would say you are right.
Now at the front part of the spring is there a bracket off the side of the frame that the spring would touch with a load in the bed? If so that should be removed also. Dave ----
Taking out the helper won't have any effect on the stance of the truck. It only comes into play with a load in the bed.
Looks like the 2nd leaf up from the bottom has been added. Either to increase the load or compensate for worn springs.

This.
Also you say 'first for now'. No reason to do anything until you're ready to do the whole process. Otherwise you are just wasting ubolts.
