WOW!! thats pretty much what i paid for the truck. Sweet!! thanks for the info. Not that my wife will change her mind about the truck. To her its a big P.O.S.
But she's coming around, lol
She'll come around . I've dragged my wife all over the country in mine since I built it in 1975
Walston, you were right!! According to this booklet, that does appear to be an OD. Not from the factory but apparenty some manufacturer that was out in Cali.
Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while.
Your engine is a Y block, that was the standard V8 option in that year. It could be a 272 or 292, hard telling what they put in it. It has a modified exhaust system using an upside down left side exhaust manifold with a wrap around pipe to make dual exhaust, not the best method IMO.
Don't recognize the part the lever is attached to. looks like something between the bell housing and trans??
On the first page of this thread, ( post #13 ) I had posted a pic of the engine and Hiball offered the above reply. Is it possible that the left side,
( driver side ) exhaust manifold is stock, ( not modified ). Or in what way would the exhaust have been modified, because it does have duals?? From the little bit of reasearch i have done, it appears to have the Cleveland foundry cast back near the distributor, which is the F surrounded by a semicircle. That cast is also on the left side exhaust manifold. Since it came from the Cleveland foundry I believe that's either a 292 or a 312, ( more than likely a 292 ). Have not been down near the oil filter yet to check the casting. Again, just curious how the exhaust would have been modified. Great forum here!! I appreciate all the replies.
Thanks Walston for the pics. and the reply. Again, according to the VIN it has a "J" for the fourth digit so this truck i believe originally came with a inline 6. Just trying to figure out the year and other info on this engine. It does have a 2bbl Holley carb which i believe came stock. The numbers on the plate read " C2TE-9510-R " List- 2489
I would like to see if i can still get a rebuild kit for this carb.
Thanks everyone for your help.......Jason
I believe I just found a rebuild kit for the carb at NAPA for less than $40 bucks.
The numbers beginning with C2 would indicate 1962. So you Y-block likely came out of another F-100 but from 1962. IIRC they were used until ~1965.
If I can read the casting on the side of the block above the oil filter, would that code give me a date or any other info? Im just trying to also get some specs. on the motor like h.p. and torque numbers.
