Your engine is a Y block, that was the standard V8 option in that year. It could be a 272 or 292, hard telling what they put in it. It has a modified exhaust system using an upside down left side exhaust manifold with a wrap around pipe to make dual exhaust, not the best method IMO.
Don't recognize the part the lever is attached to. looks like something between the bell housing and trans??
I agree it is a Y-block. I would guess a 292 since that is common to these trucks from 57-65. The second lever may be an overdrive, which would be really cool to have. Transmission may be a T98, pictures are pretty small for my old eyes.

Thanks for the reply. I'll have to do some research figure out what the engine and trans are. According to the VIN the truck came with a inline 6
and the trans crossmember looks fab'ed. Its been a busy week so havent had much time to mess around with it. Yesterday i put some MMO down the cylinders and next weekend i'll try to turn the engine over by hand. It seems as though when the truck is in gear and the lever on the left is in the forward position i can still push the truck. Then when i pull the lever back the trans engauges... If that makes any sense. My first project ever, my first truck, and my first Ford. The only thing that really scares me is that the wiring is a rats nest. Like i said, at one time this was an old farm truck so there was alot of stuff done to it that wasn't factory. Like a home made spare gas tank in the bed with the filler neck sticking out the side of the bed and a switch on the floor inside to go from tank to tank. Oh well, to each their own. Just cant wait to get into this truck.

Oh yeah, an OD would be really cool. Yeah im sorry about the small pics.

If thats some sort of overdrive it is one I have never seen before, it may be some rare thing worth a pot of gold. Some better pictures would be helpful..
Walston, you were right!! According to this booklet, that does appear to be an OD. Not from the factory but apparenty some manufacturer that was out in Cali.
Thanks Hiball But first i have to see if the motor even runs to see if any of this even works. My way of thinking is that there must be a reason that this has been sitting for the last 12 - 13 years. and usually the reasons aren't good.
