Serial Number Help

I have a serial no. for a Ford Panel truck. I know this is not the correct place to look but I did not see a panel section. I hope someone can help me break this down, if not direct me to the correct place. P5D2HM14733 is the serial no. Thanks

The VIN is what your truck is registered by, but you typed this number wrong.

The 1st 3 digits are P50 = P500 Parcel Delivery.

The 4th digit of 2 decodes to a 6 cylinder Detroit 6-71 diesel, is this the engine your truck has?

The 5th digit of H decodes to the Lorain OH Assembly Plant.

The last 6 digits of the VIN is the serial number: M14733 = 1971.

Type further questions in the LARGE TRUCK forum.

V. I. N. Number

The serial number is right. The Trans. is 3HD. The rear axle is 5.83. The color is P. The production code is 6BNY102. The W. B. is 134. The Cert. H. P. is 91 at 3400 R.P.M. Max. G.V.W. is 14000. The DSO is 21857. I took all of this off of the ID plate on the dash. With all of this I still do not know what year it is! It looks like a one to one and a half ton set up. It has three on the tree shifter. The engine would have to be a little 6cyl. by looking at the small grille and short engine compartment.

The serial number is the last 6 digits of the VIN: M14633 = 1971.

The two 6 cylinder engines installed in these P series trucks were 240 I-6 (VIN engine code, 4th digit A) & 300 I-6 (VIN engine code, 4th digit B).

P series: Ford supplied the rolling chassis and front sheet metal, the body was installed after the truck left the assembly line.
