I picked up a f250 4x4 parts truck that had been sitting in a farmers pasture for a decade or so. No title and the old guy couldn't even remember where the truck came from.
Having a little trouble figuring out the year. It is a 80 to 86 style body. The 11 digit vin ends in four numbers. From what I have researched the 10th digit should be a year code but it should be a letter, not a number.
^ Not so, if it's a 1980 .. as it has an 11 digit VIN ^

From what I have researched the 10th digit should be a year code (1981 and later 17 digit VIN only).
If it has an 11 digit VIN, it's a 1980. 17 digit VIN introduced in 1981.
1961/80 11 digit VIN similar:
1st 3 digits: series code; 4th digit: engine code; 5th digit: assembly plant code. The last 6 digits:
1961/66: 6 numbers / 1967/77: 1 letter, followed by 5 numbers / 1978/80: 2 letters followed by 4 numbers.
All of the above refers to the Numerical Sequence of Assembly, the trucks specific serial number, decodes to the year.
The Certification Label (glued to the left door face below the latch) has the VIN printed on it along with myriad codes and has the production date located at the upper left hand corner.
