Looked around to find a 66 spotting thread. If there is one mods sorry and please move this into it.
I was on a back road up here in CT and saw this neat truck. Upon looking it seems like the rat rod emblem is relative to the work it's had done to it.
I have a dent side 4x4 and would love an older 2wd.
Here's the truck. I don't know the dealership I'm not promoting its sale.
It looks like a chopped bullnose tailgate
I like the rear wheel styling on these trucks
Doubt it's only 56k
New body mount?
Swiss chess
More almost repaired rust
Custom fab cab mount
Haven't heard it run or called the guy. I'm knee deep in a 460 5speed swap in the dent. Maybe it will sit around for a while. Thoughts?
Agreed. The PO on my 78 did similar 'fixes' I wish I didn't go look at the truck at night or in the snow. I would of seen the 'custom fab work' prior to purchase. I still like my truck I just wish people wouldn't do a hack job. Now if that truck had an $800 price tag it would be completely different.
If I got another one I think I'd shop around somewhere in Arizona or San Diego, etc. where there's less rust. It would be worth the flight to check a few out, and ship it back. Make a vacation out of it.

This is C4TZ-9940700-A tailgate used on the following Stylesides: 1964/66 F100/250 2WD & 1966 F100 4WD
This is (by the grille) and 8 lug wheels, a 1966 F250 2WD Standard Cab / It looks completely stock to me.
The front fenders with the 36" opening radius are correct as is the 3 spoke steering wheel.
56,000 miles? The odometer reads to 99999.9 then returns to ZERO!
My speedo reads 12345.6
With the age of these trucks, it could be one hundred or even two hundred.
There is alot of work body wise that is needed but if you just want to drive it and enjoy it the frame, cab and bed should be your main concern. For the money, I would be under two but like NumberDummy stated, it being a 250 that says alot. What motor is in it? A 352 would be my guess or a 292 Y block like mine. If it is a 352 or possible even a 390 (that someone might have changed) it may be worth it.
I may be crucified for this, but I am certainly a fan of flat black as long as its done correctly and it not just primer. However, much of that flat black may be sanded away once the patch welding starts...
The price on it does seem high for what it is but I will never fault a guy for paying a small premium to lock down the right one if it's the one a guy has been searching for.
(Especially given that I just paid about $500 too much for my 65 because short bed flaresides in my area are pretty uncommon to find considering most trucks of that era in this farming area were purchased for utility and that resulted in mostly F250's.)
called the guy. its primer only. They did the cab mounts (not OEM replacement) some body work, replaced door pins. Its a 292 floor shifter and new brakes. Runs good. points ignition.

If it has a 292 (dizzy behind the carb), despite the 1966 grille, upper grille panel with parking lamps and front fender emblems, it's not a 1966, it's a 1964.
Styleside bed is the same 1964/66 F100/250 2WD & 1966 F100 4WD
The front bumper uses two bolts per side on 1964/66. 1961/63 front bumper uses 3 bolts per side in a triangular pattern.
