2001 7.3. Algae in system

New here . Take it easy on me. But these things are no farm tractor. 2001 With 95,000 on it. The truck sat last winter and now is just being stupid. Pulled top of tank off and found Algae covering screen. Cleaned it and the tank. Notice crimped fuel line on fuel pump side. Replaced it with rubber fuel line . Darn thing was suckling air do I fixed that. Truck ran like crap after this. Seemed like it was full of air at this point. Went to change fuel filter and there was so much pressure it blew fuel everywhere. I have never had that happen before. Still has a slight miss and takes too long to build boost. Thinking it's air still in the system maybe but this fuel pressure bothers me. Any help would be appreciated.

While you had the tank open did you clean the two filters inside the mixing valve or did you just clean the coarse screen in the pickup foot itself?

If you do need to go back inside the tank again you may want to consider doing the hutch / harpoon mod while your in there. Don't know what to say about the pressurization, did you open the drain on the back of the fuel bowl before you removed the cap to replace the filter?

Your pressure regulator may be stuck closed causing the high pressure in the bowl. Might want to take it out and clean it. It's on the driver side of the fuel bowl.

For grins, consider some biobor to get rid of any remaining growth and then change the filter again after a short time.

Toward getting sprayed when opening the filter, there is a releif / drain valve (yellow thingey on the passenger side bottom of the bowl). Place a bucket under the passenger side of the engine to catch the flow as the hose end is fairly high up and will splatter.

While working on the filter, consider replacing the misc O-rings as they have a reputation of going bad and leaking fuel by this age. Search around for how to do an overhaul on the filter housing.

No pressure in bowl this morning. Took fpr apart and found dirt in it. Cleaned it. Fuel pump f illing bowl fast. Ok . Still stumbles when you stomp it to the floor. I only cleaned the big screen in tank. If I missed the other could this be it ? Didn't know about them. Almost runs like it has a miss. Fuel filter has been clean through out. But if the tank screens I missed would do this please hod let me know. After a $4000 Trans I'm about broke.

There are several ways to address the screens in the tank. You can just clean and reinstall. I did the full Hutch and Harpoon mods with a Racor 120 http://www.parker.com/literature/Rac...ter_-_7600.pdf

I should have mentioned. This was a cab and chassis truck. Fuel pick up is different than that one
