Okay guys I have a dilemma... My only transportation right now is my truck and I have concluded that I have a bad injector. I ordered new single shot stage 1 injectors to replace my split shots.
Now I know I have to get my chip reprogrammed for it to run correctly which I am going to send out for first thing in the morning.
My questions is, can I cause harm to my engine if I install the single shots and run it without the chip on the stock split shot tune? I want to install the injectors asap so I can return mine and get my core charge back without late fees as well as not run my engine with a bad injector. My worry is my chip won't be back before this coming weekend and I want to install the injectors then.
What does everyone think? Should I wait if my chip isn't back in time? I know the truck will run (albeit extremely poorly) I just want to know if I can cause damage.
I wish I could be of help but I know nothing on this subject as of now. I know how you feel though... I don't like having to wait one day not being able to drive my truck but things keep coming up!
Honestly though, I'd guess that it's probably not good to run the truck if it's going to run poorly. I know it would be bad news on a gasoline engine (maybe not super terrible but still not a good idea driving if it runs rich or lean.)
Thanks guys. If I can get my car to start I'll just be patient and drive it but as of last weekend it was DOA. That's the reason behind possibly running it without the tune.
My girlfriend kindly reminded me that if I don't return my cores in time I will lose my core deposit so... If my car wont start Friday then I have no choice but to run the truck on single shots with a split shot tune...Otherwise I won't be able to return my cores in time.
So what's the purpose of having the truck reprogrammed for single shots?
You'll find out when you install the injectors. As stated, you won't hurt anything but trying to go easy on initial tip-in from a stop or low speeds will not be possible as it will be very jerky and idle roughly.

Thank you! This is exactly the answer I was looking for.
