I was wondering what is the most popular shift kit that everyone is putting in there rigs, are most of you guys putting in the R/V towing kit or are you guys using the street/ strip shift kit?
>Can you say anything more about your experiences with this
>B&M shift kit w.r.t. installation and performance?
First of all the reason I put the shift kit in was to extend the life of my transmission as much as I could, and the shift kit I installed was about $25 its like cheep insurance, and it did firm up the shifts nicely.
Like I said I installed it myself, but I did have someone helping me, two people make it go faster and easier.
I’m almost 18 and my friend is a 17, but I have been wrenching on cars since I was a little kid, my brother taught me allot of stuff. So the install wasn’t to bad, I have never had a transmission apart, so I learned as I took it apart. I put it back together and it works just fine, I also installed a connector to the wire loom coming out of the computer, which comes with the kit, it helps with the shifting characteristics.
The shift points are allot firmer than stock, but not uncomfortable at all.
The only problem is that it like slaps into reverse kind of hard, and sometimes pauses going into reverse. It did that it before the kit, but it seems to have amplified it. It’s not to bad though.
If you work on your vehicles, and sort of now how a transmission works, you can do it your self. All I did was read the directions, and do it. They were very detailed, and if you decide to do it, me and allot of other people will be here to help you if you get stuck.
What did you mean by W.R.T?
Good day!
Thanks again for the info madman, I am trying to find the shift kit that is going to be firm but not kill my body every time I shift, I have the AOD tranny myself and I finally found the kit on the summit racing site that you provided me.
Hey fellas, should I rebuild my tranny (E4OD) and then install the shift kit or will the kit give it some extra life? I have over 180,000 miles (mostly highway) on this sucker but the tranny has some rough shifts once in a while. Enough to give a person whiplash if you are not expecting it. Let me know what ya'll think. Thanks.
The sift kit may help with its life, but they do not help failing transmission.
I say install the kit, and when it goes then rebuilt it.
Your transmission sounds pretty good yet, if it slips allot and always shift hard than I suggest not putting it in.
When you do decide to rebuild the shift kit will be still be there when you’re done.
