Starting Problems

My 1990 F250 460 v8 engine is giving me some starting problems lately. Every fourth start or so, the engine only cranks. It acts like no gas is getting to the injectors. It doesn't matter if I am on the front or rear tank. Over the course of this year, I have replaced the alternator, the spark control module, and the starter is good. The engine was recently rebuilt in the fall.

I can hear the pumps pressure up the lines when I turn the key to on.

Is it possible that both fuel pumps have gone out? Is there something else I can check? Once the truck is started it runs great. Can the dealer diagnose via their testing machines what may be happening, even though it happens only occasionaly?

Any help would be appreciated.:-staun

Check to see if its getting spark while it does the not start problem.
Also see if there is fuel pressure when it happens.
Go from there once you figure out if it’s a spark problem of fuel problem.

Starting Problems

I have virtually the same problem with my truck. Its a 1995 F-150 5.0 AODE. It started out doing what you are describing. I took it to the local ford house and they just came back and told me that it has an extended crank time but nothing is wrong with it. Sound like a crock to me. I've had my truck at two other shops and no body can figure out what is wrong with it. It has been doing this for over a year now. I have burned up two starters and am now on the third. Mine has gotten to the point that its about 95% of the time that it cranks but won't start. Usually it takes me about 3 times of cranking on it to get it to start. I have replaced almost everything I can think of that might be causing this. I've spent close to 750 bucks trying to fix it. Let me know if you figure out what it is, or if you want to know what all I have tried.
