Has anybody seen a trailer odometer? I know some bigger trailers have the hub mounted units but I don't see a way to put these on a smaller trailer with aluminum wheels. Any ideas?
I had never thought about it, but something like that would be nice to have and when I ran a search, I found lots of folks asking about it. The Stemco will work on 16" or larger wheels, as long as you can mount it.
Here' my thought, but I am going to call Stemco first to see what they think Monday. Stemco makes the hubometers that you fasten to the center of the hub either with a stud or a bracket you see on big trucks. They are programmed to specific diameter tires, but nothing as small as we have on our RVs.
However, I think all it would take is drilling a hole in the center of a solid stainless hub to mount it. Then if you knew the percentage relation between the circumference of our tire in comparison to what the hubometer was calibrated to read, all it would take is to multiple the hub reading by the percentage of the relationship to read the miles on the RV.
I think there is a market for this and want to see what they think. If they would simply agree to calibrate to our tires sizes, it would be a done deal.
Rats, its already been done, but the one pictured only works on wheels with even number studs as I understand it has to be centered. If it is not too heavy, I think it would be possible to just use the center stud on the hubometer. I would like to try one out.
I was looking over the graphic for the Sauber linked above and the wheel and tire sizes are pretty limiting. I like the way the electronic ones work on bicycles better, but the trick would be mounting one.
It seems to me it should be possible to make one small enough that it would replace the grease cap at the end of the axle.
If you have a 6 stud hub, it looks as though a Sauber 10526 will work along with a strap attachment option. Interesting idea for our TT/5ers though the latest trucks have an on board dash screen readout for whenever trailers are hooked up (assuming you don't have a senior moment and reset it at the wrong time as I did last summer). Also, STEMCO offer a bunch of different versions along with brackets for 5-6 stud wheels but you would need to do some research to get the right one device and bracket for your wheel and tire combo
Yes, but I would rather not have to track something and write it down each time. I don't want to track trips, I want to track usage. Right now, for maintenance I go by year. I know it is not an essential, but given how many folks on the Internet ask about availability, there appears to be a demand.
