2003 Explorer a/c problem.

4.0 v6 A/c works great at first. Then after a while stops blowing out the center dash vents. Any idea on what to check? Still blows cold out the vents by each front door

air direction is controlled by 3-4 vacuum operated doors/ dampers inside the air duct. You have a problem with one of the doors or the controlling vacuum cylinder ....

look at 4th post down... look at door 2 and 18... check if you also have air a defrost when you loose the vent but have door vents working.
