I seem to have a problem, determined it is not the starter, nor believe it is the battery - fully charged. Anyways I did have this with a 94 and it was a wiring issue, wonder if any other folks went thru this recently and what they might have found what the problem was ? Had a windshield replaced, I also took my gauges out and replaced, not sure if I upset something in the process .......
Take something metal and bridge between the two large posts on the fender mounted solenoid. Or better yet hook a remote starter switch directly on the starter. This will bypass most everything. Make sure the transmission is in neutral when you do this.

Ok, now since I have a 5 spd, one of the most important things might be the clutch switch, will it over ride this ? I do have a starter switch but don't believe it is long enough to go all the way to drivers seat. If my starter tests fine on the bench, what will this tell me - assuming it works fine doing this ?
I found the problem. It was not the battery I think I ruled it out in the beginning, the truck previous to the last 2 weeks was running fine. Should I let others guess for maybe a day or so then reveal what the problem was ?

Yes, either method I mentioned under #2 will over ride(bypass) the clutch safety switch, just for your future reference. I'm glad you got the issue resolved.
I'm going to guess your problem was a bad wire between the fender mounted solenoid and the starter.
I found a wire dangling and it attached to the body above the heater box but not connected to anything. So I cleaned up an attachment point on the block actually on the EGR and clamped it for testing purposes with vise grips. Wallah. it started just like it was supposed to.
So cleaned up an attachment point and screwed it on.
This leads to another question, I would suspect there is more than one engine or trans ground to fame, is this correct ? If so where are they, besides this one mentioned ?
if that little ground made your starter turn faster/better, you have a bad ground from battery to block. that little ground is not the solution to your problem....so youre right, "nobody got it"...
the block ground that is adequate for the starter is on the passenger side by the engine mount.

Ok, then checking this in the next couple of days seems to be in order ....
I feel like I should have asked ... "wanna guess where the ground is that you are missing?"
then wait a few hours, then say where it is.
That would have been Ok, because it doesn't affect me getting the truck running. I wouldn't have said that to someone desperately trying to get their truck running ..... I suspect that I have a Weak ground if what you are saying is true on the other item and it just needed a boost or this extra help ?
If you mean that little ground giving it a boost or helping, indeed it can and likely did in your situation. The starter will fry little grounds though, in an event that the big one is missing or is so bad that it barely functions anymore as it should.
You were right on with your response. Turns out insulation was missing about one inch and it finally rotted out. I have had wandering idle and a check engine light lately, hopefully this will take care of that too ....
Start by pulling codes for check engine light. If you don't have a vac leak causing your idle wander, it's prob egr related and that's what the code is. Could be a diff sensor of course, but the code will fell the tale of the check engine light.
