How much coolant does the radiator on my 2013 F150 5.0L hold. I'm planning on draining it and refilling and I bought 3 gallons of the Motorcraft prediluted coolant which I think is enough. I know the whole system holds 17 quarts.
The owners guide will give you an overall coolant capacity in quarts but it doesn't break it down by radiator capacity, engine block, etc. So the system holds 17 quarts, I can't imagine being more than 3-4 quarts residual in the engine, hoses and heater core.
2 gallons of coolant should cover a drain and fill, keep the 3rd one just in case? Most of the time I've had to re top off the coolant the next day after a full cool down. Seems to be hard to get all the air out of these things..
When I drained mine I could only get about 2 gallons (8 quarts) out of the radiator. So i flushed it all after that with hose running, then when clear water only coming out i ran a few gallons of distilled water thru, drained until nothing coming out (assumption is that about 2 gallons still in block), closed the valve, added 2 gallons of concentrated orange, and it came out perfect. So the radiator holds 8 quarts, 9 quarts remain in the block. Ta da .
