I use a 5 Gal Container which fills between 1/3 and 2/3. So, between one and two gallons.
Unless the customer needs new product, we just reuse the drained.
Since you're not doing a complete flush, I would reuse until the time comes to service the system.

I would say yes. And, a Filter may help extend your Water Pump life and Radiator.
