Many of us chipped before we modded and lived to tell the tale. What my chipping did for me was to expose the weaknesses in the truck. It's like asking a walker to run, and when you see them run - you then know why they were walking. I got everything to 100% so I could enjoy the chip, and when I did - I discovered a 100% truck isn't such a dog.
Installation for you should go smooth. When I installed mine, I was too ginger with the 10mm bolt thru the firewall tightening the pcm back in. (felt like I was going to strip it so I just tightened it to my taste) After a few years my truck would just randomly shut down and would restart.
I had it towed. Long story short, after it was in the shops parking lot, I did the wiggle test on everything from the radiator back to find the cause. After crawling up under the dash to complete the test........Engine running, I bumped the pcm with my left elbow and the truck died. Loose pcm.
The mechanic at the garage is a friend of mine and a really good Diesel Mech. He said that would have been his last guess, saving me hundo's.
