A surprising amount of people are still pulling running flatheads out, along with tranny and accessories to mount a modern drivetrain. They show up quite regularly around Western Washington. There was just recently a merc flathead and ford o matic trans on CL on the next island over. Too high at 1200.00 and I wouldn't want the auto trans.
Truthfully, the automatic wouldn't be my first choice but I don't know that I would turn it down either. Let me ask if you don't mind, what would be a fair price for a running Flathead V8/trans combo?

I bought a rebuilt one a few years ago with overdrive tranny for $300. Owner had bought an unfinished restoration and wanted a 350 chevy in it.

There were a few this spring for 400-500, but on the Eastern side of the state. The 8ba in my two ton was a great runner with no cracks for 500.00 right here on the island. The lasyt one I had professionally rebuilt was 20 years ago. Balanced and merc crank but 5 grand!!!! We were getting some really big jobs at that time! So a good runner for a grand is a good deal if known good.
Thanks for the advice guys. I appreciate the help. I hope you don't mind me hangin' out in this forum awhile. I'm just a fan of Ford Trucks of all ages!
I never met a truck I didn't like!
When the resources come together for me to buy a resto project, I'd love to buy one of the early ones. So I just do a little bit of research when and where I can. Thanks again for the help.
Hang out here long enough and you'll want to build a 5-bay pole barn. Add FordBarn forums to your daily reading and you'll have to double the size.
I should clarify: my dream garage is already a 50-vehicle warehouse! LOL Give me a collection of old Ford's, Mercury's, and a little British sports car thrown in just to spice things up and I'd be happy!
Funny, I emailed him earlier this week to ask for his phone number so I could call him (when wife was at work). It looks like a really nice truck. The larger fender openings don't matter to me because it's the same as the tonners. Instead of ever calling him I keep going down to my line of jailbars and loking at the 5 or 6 down there and what a nice tonner pickup I can build with what I already have. But those doors......
