When starting, rapid clicking like failing batteries. Had dealer install new Motorcraft batteries, and it's still happening. Clicks when i turn the key and then labors while turning over for 20 seconds. Sometimes it takes 2 or three times before it starts. I put in a rebuilt alternater 5 years ago. It seems like a fuel problem, but I'm guessing. Any ideas? Thanks.
Check voltage on batteries with accurate volt meter,if below 12.6 volts then charge, check all connections, check voltage while cranking engine & report back.
A fuel problem would not cause your engine to turn slowly with the starter motor. To me that would point to either weak / partially discharged batteries (determined by voltage of batteries), a bad connection (either ground or hot) in the system, or a weak starter motor. The clicking and no turn could be a failing starter solenoid not letting the starter gear engage to crank the engine.
I have relatively new batteries, fully charged, and a new starter. Turns over very fast, but 5-10 seconds to start, as if fuel is not available at the injectors for that amount of time. Pump? Leak in fuel line? Or? What/how to test to pin it down? Thanks
Perform a Cody test and peek into the top of your HPOP reservoir through the allen key plug on the top. Oil level should be within an 1" or so through that hole. The Cody test applies air pressure to your HPOP lines and tests for leaking injector O rings.
The OP is almost two years old. I was thinking that the battery/starter issue was resolved and that this is a new problem. He probably should have started a new thread on it.
Sorry. I should have started a new thread. The battery and starter issues have been resolved. I wiil perform the Cody test and get back to you. Thanks a lot.
