Stuck starter

So i went to try to start after all the stuff i had going on with my injectors yesterday. My bayteries were fully charged and the truck was still turning over pretty slow, maybe a bit faster then yesterday but not much. I still never had it fire off at all, not even once and i was turning it over quite a bit.......
Anyways i cracked the injector lines again and turned it over with the pedal floored again and ive got consistent fuel at all of them each and everytime i do this, and i also have fuel that pushes out a bit from the injector caps everytime i loosen the caps back off after trying to start it.

I did all this about five or six times.

Well right at the end i was trying to start it again and while i was turning the engine it over the starter just stopped dead. I tried to turn it over again and all i get is a click at the starter, i got under the truck and tried tapping the starter with a hammer and i didnt work, still jist get a click.

So i think my starter is either stuck in the flywheek improperly or something, or its fubar.

Now im pretty sure this starter is original and that it wS on its way out hence my engine turning over so slow, so its time for a new one anyways. Ive read about the one syarter thats apparently good on these trucks. Nippindenso i think?

Can anyone give Me Any advice on how i can get my truck started/how to get the atarter engaging again. Also which starter i shoukd buy as i know the local carparts stores are always a crapshoot.

Thanks again for any help guys

What is the voltage at your batteries?
My guess is your batteries are weak, and they just died again in your attempt to start.

You might want to pull them off, fully charge them and get them load tested. Also check the condition at all connections between the batteries and the start, and batteries and engine grounds.

You could also pull the starter and bring that in to be tested if you want.

I have about 13.5 to 14 volts on my batteries when there fully charged. I Had just charged them all the wAy up before trying to bleed the injectors out/trying to start it.

I have all brand new batterycables as of this time last year, they are still in good shape and no corrosion.

My starter has never really spun the engine fast ever since i got it, other then when the engine was just running, when its warm it spins it decently fast but still not like a new starter. It also is original by the looks of it and the trucks got 280 000 on it....so i think its time for a new one anyways.

Has anyone heard anything good or bad about the db eletrical snd0027 high torque diesel starter? https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007Y85GH8/ref=pd_aw_sbs_263_of_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=6B2VJP1K0NCJ JBRXSAZT

The db electrical starters are supposed to be good. I haven't tried one, but several others on here have.

i had a DB starter in my 88 for a while because it was new and free. lasted a little less than a year before it locked up on me. i have a local rebuilder here that has been in business for over 60 years that i use. .

my bet is that the starter was shot all along and just not spinning it fast enough to light it off.

Here's a funny story...when I was selling my truck, a guy from Boston wanted to buy it, he flew into the local airport so I went down there in the truck to pick him up. Go to start it up to leave and NOTHING. Everything electrical works fine but the engine won't crank or anything. Thank God it was a stick and the parking lot was on an incline, so I was able to pop the clutch and start it to get it home.

The guy had to spend the night at my house, the next morning I pulled the starter and we went down to the parts store to test it and that thing was dead as a doornail. This guy, who was coming to buy my truck, bought the starter, and I installed it for him (and I will say with that new starter it started better than it ever did). He said hey, the way I see it, I'm glad to pay for the starter, because if I'd taken the truck and driven 6 hours to a hotel (which was what he had planned to do), woke up the next morning and the starter was dead, I would have been screwed!

I'd never once had trouble with that starter before that and it just up and died.

Thank for the input guys much appreciated,i whent ahead and ordered the db eletrical starter.

When i put the new one in i am thinking about bringin my old one into my dads buddie who rewinds them with actual copper and i know does a good job. So i hve a spare starter

Does thi sound like a good idea? Or is it not really worth rebuilding these stock starters?

Thnks again guys

Great idea. A spare starter is good to have for these high-compression engines.

get the one you have rebuilt for a spare.
at one time i had 6 of these trucks, so i always had 2 starters on the self ready to go. as i started selling them off i cut back to one, and now only have the one truck and one spare starter.
i also always had at least one alternator, vacuum pump, rebuilt oil cooler, water pump, AC compressor, lift pump, injector pump, and set of injectors on hand, but have not replace them after getting rid of everything and using them because everything on the truck is fairly new except for the pump and injectors.

Funny this thread pops up... Mine just started having the exact same symptoms. Just got back from a 4 hour trip and truck sat in my driveway for about 3 hours, managed to drain all the fuel out of the filter (never had intrusion problems before) and refused to start. took me a half hour working alone to bleed the air out of the system. Cranked continuously for about 25 seconds, let cool for about two minutes. Now she clicks when trying to start, but after several attempts it did start. After reading what i have on here i am going to take it to a reputable shop for a R&R.

So just an update.

When i said my starter came in it was because the shipping company said they were delivering jt as i typed that post out, but apparently they are either lyers or very dumb because it never arrived,

so i contacted Amazon And they said the delivery company that THEY automatically use has a horrible record and that the ****ty delivery company they used still hasnt got the starter to my house yet(even tho i oaid overnight shipping on monday)

now after checking the tracking it appears the dim b@st@rds have shipped it to southern alberta(im in ontario) after the package had already been about three hours away from me in a facility for most of the week. So who knows when its gonna show up or if it ever will. Useless f$@ks!!

Anyways im gonna have to get my brother to pull my truck out of the big poison ivy patch its sitting in so i can pull the old starter out and get it rewound.

I will keep u guys updated
