Hey,
This is for someone who is more proficient in their electrical engineering than I am
I am wiring 8 autometer gauges into an instrument cluster for my 70 F-250, and each gauge is supposed to be fused at 4 amps. I am using one main power wire for everything, so what should I fuse this at? Thanks for the help,
-Nick
I would doubt each gauge will draw anywhere near 4 amps each. I just checked Autometer's site and I get the impression to use one circuit protected at 4 amps to power the gauges. They're only using 18 gauge wiring and you wouldn't want to fuse wire that small at 20+ amps. I'd run a 5 amp fuse and feel safe.
thanks for the reply's
I figure I'll run a 16 gage wire to power all of them, and fuse it at about 10 amps. If this burns out, I'll run a larger wire and fuse, but it should be fine. I'm a little hesitant to run a bigger fuse in case I have trouble with one gauge and damage it. If the current laws I learned at school are as I remember them, 8 x 4 amps would add to 32, but like macguyver says, I have a real hard time imagining the gauges would draw that much. thanks for your help,
