I can't speak to how other gauges behave, but I've driven a rig that has gauges with that big ugly BANKs written across the face - like a bumper sticker on the gauge. I didn't like the faces on them.
Here's what I have with my ISSPRO EV2s: I can get the programming kit and alter how the gauges behave, like changing the sensitivity (settle the jumpy needle on the fuel pressure gauge), lighten or darken the backlight intensity, adjust the LED alarm at whatever point I choose (or eliminate it) - then test the alarm to be sure it worked. I can even change the entire behavior of the gauge, if I decide that's what I want. I even like their simple faces that color-match the Ford dash, so I programmed my Torque Pro to look like an extension of the gauges from my vantage point at the wheel.
I love my autometers. has the green light just like the factory, boost gauge is on the steering column, and the a-pillar gauges, pyro, HPOP pressure, Fuel pressure and trans temp.
I have banks dynafact gauges and I was wondering if it is worth the time and money to update to new isspro or autometer gauges. Thanks for the input.
12pump, I'm in the same situation as you, and have often asked myself the same question as you. I have a triple pillar of all Banks Dynafact gauges, and while I'm not bothered by nor do I even notice the Banks logo, I am bothered by how the gauges are illuminated, in that the numbers themselves do not light up, but rather there is a bulb in the back that glares light around the circumference of the gauge face, reflecting obnoxiously on the interior of the gauge housing.
The EV series wasn't even introduced yet way back when I set up my guages, and it was quite clear from the forum chatter back at that time that the first EV series, short for "Enhanced Visibility", was invented to address the very problem I've described with the old Banks gauges. Autometer introduced an equivalent backlit series of gauges as well.
However, I have not updated my gauges for one simple reason: Don't fix what ain't broke. Too often, I have read of Isspro gauges needing to be replaced, fixed, updated, substituted for a newer version that doesn't fail, etc. In all those reports, Mike at Isspro was always said to have offered great customer service, taking back returns, sending new parts, etc. And that is wonderful. But I'd rather not have to deal with fixing gauge faults in the first place. And since these Dynafact gauges have never, ever, not even once ever have even shown the slightest hint of a stutter or hiccup, I'm reticent to change them for something that looks prettier. I'd rather have gauges that always work.
I'm in the process of changing everything to Isspro2. Tugly hooked up with the boost gauge I'll get pics in my build thread that I have not started yet. Fighting compression tester as we type.
Edit: Should of added that there is nothing wrong with the gauge, just going in a different truck. Sorry Tug.
Yes, my gauges have been going through the revolving door that is Stinky's dash, but only because I changed what I wanted as I learned more about the truck - not because of failure.
I finally have what I want: Two EGTs and a 0-60 PSI gauge that does dual duty as a Fuel Pressure gauge and a boost gauge.
Another vote for the ISSPRO EV2's, I love mine. Picked the color style to match to factory cluster and they look like they belong there stock. Not too bright on full bright either, plus I tied them into the factory dash dimmer circuit so they dim with the cluster of I feel so inclined. They've been in there for going on three years with no issues whatsoever aside from the bezels seem to nick up a little easily when I'm working in that area (more my fault for not being careful enough).
As Rich pointed out already, the programming CD lets you customize the gauge characteristics and behavior (sweep speed, input required to move the gauge X amount, etc) is really nice and is about $20 from Clay.
