1994 4.0L 4X4 - I'm confused. After finding out that I should clean my MAF before trying to replace it, I went poking around my engine and found two thing which I thought were the MAF. One is located right after the air filter and is a black plastic box that has a plug connected to it. It also has the star bolts I've been hearing about. The other is similar, only smaller and it loacted near the engine block, but still within the air system, close to the IAC. At first I thought the MAF was the smaller one near the block, but now I'm not sure. Could someone help, before I take them both apart. Also what is the other one? Thanks.
The MAF is normally found directly after the air filter box. The other thing you are looking at, and I'm assuming it has an electrical plug on it, is probably the air tempature sensor. The MAF should have more wires, 4 I think, that the temp sensor which I believe has two.
Just curious, why do you feel you need to clean this? It normally doesn't get any junk in it like carbon buildup. Ususlly it's the throttle body that needs cleaning from time to time.
Here's another picture of the MAF sensor from my '98 that I had lying around, so I uploaded it to my gallery. Maybe it's a little bit clearer than the other shots.
