MAF Help

Check Engine Light is on. Before I take it to have the code read, I thought I'd start by cleaning the MAF according to the instructions at this site. Its never been done, so its a good start, right? I disconnected the battery, so the Check Engine Light went off, but came back on in a few days. I noticed that the bottom filament of the MAF is black, not shiny like in the photo on the MAF cleaning instruction page. It remained black after cleaning. Does this mean the MAF is burnt and needs to be replaced?

Until you actually have the codes in hand, anything you do to try to correct the CEL is based on guesswork.

You might get lucky, who knows?

Would'nt be a bad idea like projectSh089 said, get the code read and go from there. Is that the only thing that is wrong is the check engine light is on?

The truck runs great. Occasionally it pings, especially when I am towing our camper. I usually put in a higher octane fuel when towing, so it doesn't ping. I'm going to have the codes read tomorrow. I'll let you know what I find out.
