Mass Air Flow Sensor

I have a 1994 4.0L 4X4 Ranger Super cab. My check engine light kept coming on, so I got the codes pulled and it came back that the Mass Air Flow sensor was causing the voltage to be too high and too low at times. Also when I'm driving, mostly on the highway (45-65 mph), the truck jerks; kind of lurching forward. Is changing the MAF going to help this problem or is it something more involved. Also if I was to change the MAF I'd like to do it myself. Is this a hard part to change. I've located it and it doesn't look too complicated, but I thought I'd ask first. Also any tips when changing it, or stuff to watch out for would be greatly appreciated.

Before you replace it try cleaning it with throttle body cleaner it might solve your problem certainly alot cheaper.

I agree, try cleaning the MAF first. Here is a good thread on how to do it: Cleaning Your MAF

P.S. Welcome to FTE!

I had my MAF sensor replaced and it stopped my pinging. The bad news is that it cost $170. Good luck.
