I have a 95 f150 4.9 with a 5spd manual transmission with a 4 inch lift kit, the issue I have is my speedometer keeps jumping, now I have had the transmission replaced and the shop checked for issues there or with my rear end (vss sensor)
nothing, another shop replaced the spider gears in the rear end as well as the whole cluster in the dash, the speedometer worked however only when I was going over 50 mph so I replaced the actual speedometer in the cluster, this time everything work perfectly I had cruise control back and everything was fine for two days, earlier today I was headed to work and the speedometer started jumping all over the place no idea what happened please help!
the speedo gets its signal from the VSS. Don't use a poor quality VSS, you will be bit.
Aside from that, the speedo itself is a PSOM (programmable speed odometer module) and is a computer in itself. I have had the components on the board become de-soldered before and needed repair.
