Rebuilding a 351m......kinda

So I'm doing a small rebuild of a 77 f100 that has been in my family since new. My dad overhauled the motor in 2000 an it has set, having only 10,000 miles put on it since then. It smokes horribly and is very unreliable. I'm pulling the motor and wanting to rebuild it. My question is, when dad had it rebuilt he said the builder was suppose to put in 400 pistons and crank and a "small" cam. How can I go about finding out if they actually put those in so I can order the right rebuild kit.

Pull it, take heads off measure stroke of piston top to bottom. 400 has a 4 inch stroke.

if your going that far and it's out.....easy way is just pull the pan and get the casting number off the crank.........100 percent accurate way to vertify
