not sayin , I'm just sayin..............................

I don't think the OP got instructions with his parts, that's why he did not know he had to remove the steel sleeves.

the replacement urethane bushing are "engineered" to fit in the bare I beam. the steel sleeve is bonded to the OEM bushing..

Thank you, that's the kind of answer that I would have got on any of the other forums I belong to. Attitudes are generally dispatched quickly.

Guess I will just keep my eye on the bushings and watch for any cracking indicating excess pressures due to being squeezed into the sleeves.

The instructions that came were vague. I never even knew about the sleeves until I read a bit on this forum, and the old rubber came out so easy...

I wouldn't be concerned about them cracking from the extra pressure, from my own observations (not an engineer) the metal sleeve will not "hold" the bushing in position, it acts as a smooth surface that the replacement urethane bushing may slide or move in.

without that sleave, some of the urethane bushing would be sticking out the front surface of the beam , some would be out the back. this would keep it from moving in the beam. IMHO that is the reason for removing the steel sleeve, this way the job isn't getting done twice when the bushing pops out.
I've never worked in a flat rate shop but this would be a free comeback/installation failure by tech.

I've been in the trade too long to respect automotive engineers .

cheers James
