I just found this info, but I have no idea if its correct. I don't want to cut a ground wire that will interfere with the auto dimming mirror.
The white w/Pink stripe (Park Lamp Relay Control) goes to dual brake warning diode/resistor assembly. (Do not cut)
- Black w/Pink stripe (Reverse Input) (to back up, neutral safety) do not cut
- Black (Ground wire) (yes) cut just from the module.
- Light Green w/Yellow stripe (Power *Always Hot) goes to fuse #11 15A(do not cut)
- Red w/White stripe (Ignition *Only Hot at start)
No idea if yours is the same, but on my 97 white/purple connects voltage from the park/dimmer/headlight relays to the switch in the mirror. The switch just grounds the voltage from the relays.
Theres a very handy connecter in the wire that could be opened.
I'm not sure why the information you found suggests you should not cut the white/pink wire, but thinks cutting the ground is fine. The White/Pink wire is the autosensor output and, based on the description of that signal in the factory wiring diagram, cutting the ground wire would have the same effect as cutting that white/pink wire since the circuit for the sensor would not be complete without a ground for the sensor.
But, also keep in mind that I have never attempted to disable this feature and presumably the person posting that information has.
The white/pink wire goes to the RAP module as well as to the relays for the parking and headlamps. If it were me, I'd track down connector C212 and snip the white/pink wire at pin 49 with enough length that it could be reconnected if necessary. C212 is a rather large square connector above the brake pedal area.
I've read that these mirrors switch is problematic. I figure a used mirror is likely to have the same problem. I also really dislike automatic head lights anyway.
I disabled mine just an hour ago. Squirt some super glue into there and hold it in the left most position until it dries, now mine won't move at all and it stays off so it doesn't turn my lights on when I don't want it do and it doesn't flicker on and off. Easiest fix ever.
I guess that would be a solution. Still want to find a different mirror that is a direct swap with the same functions. We've just lived with it being wonky.
