Mark,

I think my '96 has 5/16" transmission oil cooler lines and Ford went to 3/8" lines at some point. Is there any measurable practical advantage to upgrading to 3/8" tubing? I can bend tubing so the out of pocket cost is pretty minimal.

Thanks

Yeah, on my '96 I don't have the connecting line, so I guess not a relief bypass valve either.

So Mark, should a high restriction develop in the cooling line, can you say what the signs / consequences would be? I'll be sure to keep that extra filter I mentioned fresh.

John Woods didn't think it would benefit much to go to bigger 3/8" lines. Besides, you have to use adapters anyway.

Then you don't have the bypass.

I'm not Mark, but assuming you have a trans fluid temp gauge, I'd say that your trans fluid temp should start to gradually and inexplicably rise over time and give you enough warning if your filter starts to cause a restriction.

Consequences of a high restriction in the cooling line in towing service would likely result in a burned up transmission.

Temperatures will go up.

I disagree, especially if you replace the air to oil cooler with a larger cooler. It will flow more fluid.

I'm just quoting John Woods who gave me a lifetime warranty. I also have a 32 row 6.0 trans cooler. Awesome! LOL

I know you are, and I disagree with John. 3/8" lines will have less flow restriction than 5/16" lines, so there will be more flow to the cooler.

Maybe that would be a good mod to do next winter!
