CrewCab hidden VIN

Can anyone say for sure, and know the exact location of the hidden VIN on the frame of a 1978 F250 Crew Cab 4WD short bed frame. I have researched and not found specific information pertaining to this on the crew cab frames. I am 99% sure this truck is pretty much original but have problems with DMV.

Can't say for sure on a CC but if Ford followed their practice as with other 73-79 trucks, the VIN would be stamped inn two places on top of the right frame rail.... One should be between the right crossmember attachment point and the radiator core support. The other is hard to see since it is behind the front right cab support mount .. basically directly under the right front passenger seat.

Good luck.

My 75 CC has the standard VIN stamp locations as outlined by HIO.

I have found part of the public VIN on frame under hood but at some point the frame rail has been notched to allow for header clearance. They probably didn't even realize they were cutting it out. Bought the truck recently and got a letter from DMV for inspection and the partial VIN isn't going to fly. If I can't find the hidden VIN I have a mess.

Well, it's a state inspection - not a confession or interrogation by the Gestapo. Don't say more than you have to.

Hopefully your warranty tag matches the title.. maybe that's enough since not every inspector may know of the frame locations. If they ask, reply that you don't know where they are located. It's up to them to find the numbers, right? They are supposed to be the experts.

Let them bring up the issue of a partial VIN and go from there..

I hear ya there HIO silver. I intend to follow up on this tomorrow with the inspector in hopes they will let it slide. The #'s that are there do match but missing 4 in the middle. I was hoping to find the hidden VIN in the location from all the info I have seen related to it on this site to avoid the aggravation. I have not found it as of yet and may not be able to without removal of cab which is something that is out of the question at this time. I have not given up yet but have cleaned frame rail from front cab mount way past passenger front seat location as best that I can with small wire brush.

Open this thread up and get deep into it, I posted some pics of the passenger side frame rail (buy the exhaust manifold vi#) and the one under the cab on the passenger side (top side) of the frame rail, about inline with the seat mount front hdrw.
