Ok I have a p0197 engine oil sensor low.. Anyone have this before.. Temperature is cold right now and truck was not plugged in.. Truck surges when started unless I give some steady throttle and oil warms up. Also service engine soon light comes on.. Oil change soon but been a while so hope it helps.
I'd start with an oil change. I do not know if you should go synthetic (5w-40) or non synthetic (15w-40) based on your temps there but that would be a start.
An oil change isn't going to fix that P0197 DTC. It's a sensor code. You either have a bad sensor, or a problem in the wiring. Disconnect the sensor and run a KOEO test. If disconnecting the sensor gives you a P0198, replace the sensor. If not, the problem is in the wiring.
Replaced the sensor.. And still have the code p0197 so off to order the connector and cut and splice it in... Really runs good now that the sensor was replaced no hesitation at all..so off to rock auto I go...
An EOT signal that is detected out of range high or low by the PCM will cause the PCM to ignore the EOT signal and default to a 212°F (100°C) value for engine oil temperature. The CHECK engine lamp will also be illuminated as long as the fault condition exists. A scanner tool will display a fixed PID value of 212°F (100°C) when EOT is in default.
So be light on the throttle on a cold engine since the PCM thinks it's hot and it's not!
I found the problem.. After finally looking at it with some light I saw the problem.. A dam exposed wire right at the connector.. So I just ordere a new connector should be here by Wednesday and hopefully gets rid of the p0197.. Fingers crossed
