quick oil ?

I changed my oil today and used rotella 5w40. Heard it was easier to start in the cold and living in wisconsin it's going to start to get pretty cold. My question is that i have always used regular oil and now switched to synthetic, I'm sure all the old oil didn't come out so is this ok to mix the old and synthetic oil? How often should i change this. I read the filter every 5,000 miles and the oil 10,000 to 15,000, sound right? Thanks

With Rotella T Synthetic, I've been changing the oil at 5k and getting a Blackstone oil analysis. Analysis report kept saying I could go farther on the oil. The last time I went 6K and analysis said oil was still good. My 03 is still under the engine warranty so I don't want to strech it to far in case I have some unanticipated problems. Ford will tell you not to extend oil changes even when using a synthethic oil. If you want to extend OCIs have oil analysis done, at least for a couple of oil changes until you get an idea how far you can safely go.

Everyone's situation is a little different. Analysis will tell you what is good for you based on how you use your vehicle. Amsoil advertises extended intervals, but I think it involves oil filter replacement between oil changes and make up oil. IMO you are better off using dino oil and changing more frequently than extending oil changes using synthetic oil.

I probably would be better off using dino but i am looking for the "easy" starts in the cold wisconsin winters. And at 16 dollars a gallon would like to get the most out of it without going to far. Is there anything i should've done when switching to synthetic to get ride of all the dino oil? Thanks

You could suck out the oil in the HPOP resevoir and then refill.
Having a slight mix shouldn't be a problem. Look to bypass oil filtration for extended OCI's.

has anyone gotten a oil analysis and got a negative response from blackstone? cause everytime i look i see that everyone has good responses, sounds kind of fishy to me. how do u know your just not throwing yoru money away sending your oil to these people and letting them judge your oil, when they know what type of oil your running and how much your using and in what kind of truck and how many miles are on the oil, when most of these oils are rated to last 10,000 miles, of course there gonna tell you at 5k that the oil is still good. someone explain why this is a legit business and why there just not feeding you bull crap, cause your paying them 20 bucks. not trying to bash the company just dont see the true benefits of it. i can analyse oil by rubing it between my fingers or looking at it for metal shavings.

An oil analysis can alert u to a potential problem developing. Establishing trends is actually what UOA's are all about. They're particually helpful when your running extended OCI's. I use bypass oil filtration and extend my oil changes
considerably. I want to know from exact analysis when to change my oil.
I read a post from another forum member who was alerted to a problem with his bpass oil filtration system through UOA.

psnut...Where do i find a good oil bypass kit? I would like to look into it. Does the cost of it make up for not spending so much on oil? Thanks

I use Motorguard filter systems: LINK
I've read a lot of good feedback about the Motorguards at the BITOG forum so i went with one. I like the cheap and effective filter elements(toilet paper roll).
The Oilguard systems are nice units too.LINK
Can't go wrong with either one.
